When I opened it, I followed the manufacturer's directions and boiled 3 full pots of water before use. At the end of the 3rd pot I looked inside and saw a bit of film in the pot, which I expected. I had no problems cleaning: I used my bottle brush to get inside and into the corners since the handle doesn't swing out of the way. (I don't have babies in the house, but the bottle brush is great for water bottles, vases, and all sorts of other grownup items.)
A few of my uses I've timed its performance. I can hear that water is boiling in a full pot after only 90 seconds. Color me impressed! When I'm using it for tea, I don't let it heat much past when I hear the water start to boil otherwise it'll be far too hot to drink. A few days later I... Read more

What a disappointment! We wanted to avoid plastic, and thought this was it. So hard to find plastic-free appliances, especially those that come into contact with HOT liquid. Talk about a way to get chemicals to leach into your food/drinks!)
It was easy to remove the internal filter that had plastic on it from the inside of the spout. They warn not to, but it really makes no difference if you are watching it boil. The manufacturer says that because the mesh screen of this filter causes some degree of pressure (however small) for the steam when the water boils which helps their autoshutoff to work. But I never leave it alone anyway.
The real problem was that the water ALSO goes up into the PLASTIC HANDLE, which has a readout for water levels. Cute idea, but hey -- hot water into plastic. I may as well have just gotten a plastic kettle.

Be careful if you will use this kettle frequently, August 27, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Kalorik JK31099 Stainless-Steel Cordless 57-Ounce Dome-Shaped Jug Kettle (Kitchen) This kettle looks nice just at the very beginning, it heats up quickly, lightweight, and the handle is well designed so you will not be getting hurt by the boiling water. However! After a few days' using, the filter inside is going to rusted! Yellow rust are everywhere of the filter especially the corners. It is unpractical you remove the filter and let it dry completely after every use. I mean, when the boil water just empty, the kettle inside is still very very hot. Moreover, it will take some efforts to remove the filter. After remove sometimes (less 5 times), the net of spout filter breaks here and there... I really do not think it is good for health by drinking "rusted" water.
Then I removed this filter and try to use this kettle without it anyway, but it will never lead to the auto-shut off. Imagine I forget to cut off the power after the water has boiled and the "auto-shut off kettle" never shut off... OMG, it is very dangerous! And you can never tell whether the... Read more
