11 of 11 people found the following review helpful Great Stainless Steel Kettle, September 26, 2011 By KSola25 (New York, NY) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Kalorik Jug Kettle, Stainless Steel (Kitchen) Traded in my old pure plastic kettle for this Kalorik model after liking the look of it on a few of those one-day-sale sites. Not shockingly, Amazon had it for $20 cheaper than the "sale" price on those sites. Have had it about a month now and use it daily. Water is piping hot in no time (and stays hot for a while), and it is quite a bit quieter than the plastic kettle I had previously. It has the normal kettle functions - automatic shutoff, minimum water level requirements, etc. So far, no real buildup inside the kettle, which is great, but I'll use the standard vinegar method to clean it when it inevitably appears.
I'm not militant about the all-stainless-steel thing, and there is a small amount of plastic exposed to the water during the heating process on the water meter, but I generally feel much better about the level of BPA in this water versus my old kettle which was like a little BPA-filled plastic party. I did find a few sites that indicated that the plastic on the... Read more
10 of 10 people found the following review helpful not as expected, January 18, 2012 By This review is from: Kalorik Jug Kettle, Stainless Steel (Kitchen) The auto shutoff is good
The cordless feature is great
The water level indicator is a tradeoff. While it is a nice convenience to be able to see the water level, especially when filling, it also causes the water to be exposed to plastic and that makes me uneasy. Since there is a water level indicator window on both sides, I especially don't like double the plastic exposure.
Since the name is Kalorik, I expected it to be manufactured in Europe where they are more aware of BPA-polypropylene, however it was manufactured in China.
My biggest disappointment is that there is a wire screen inside the spout. It is removable but that is only for cleaning and the instructions say that auto shut off feature will not operate correctly if the screen is removed. I definitely planned on removing the screen because it will eventually rust which implies to me that this is a throw away unit. When the screen goes the unit goes. I see no option to purchase a new... Read more
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful beware of BPA plastic in water level indicator, March 19, 2012 By Shefeline (California) - See all my reviews This review is from: Kalorik Jug Kettle, Stainless Steel (Kitchen) I called the Kalorik customer service to check if the plastic used for the water indicator in this model is rated food grade safe and they called me back today and said it was NOT. Instead they recommended their JK-28345 model which has different temperatures control and digital temperature indicator so no plastic of any kind ever comes into contact with the water. Thought this is useful info to share even though I do not own this model of kettle.
